Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace Since its humble beginnings, and up to the recent partnership with Oodle, Facebook’s app for classifieds listing has grown into quite a useful way to find good deals in your area.  Not only can you find cheap housing, cars, or even some decent jobs, but you can also find some wonderful deals on used or unused (new) technology.  Best of all, these deals are close to home and easy to pick up so you can enjoy not having to pay a shipping fee AND you can buy stuff (or initiate discussions for special “friend discounts”) straight from your Facebook friends.  Further adding to this, you can create your own listings in a few simple clicks.

In Facebook Marketplace, items that are listed for sale are divided into many different categories, spanning more than just the usual classifieds listings.  The ones in particular that readers of this blog may want to pay attention to are the “Electronics” and “Computers” categories.  Each section is composed of a list of posts that look similar to Facebook wall posts with much more information, and a link to enter a more detailed view.  From this link you enter what looks like an ebay-style listing of the product being offered, with pictures, a description and seller comments.  These posts do not have to be made solely by your friends or friends-of-friends, but can be anyone in your area who wants to list an item for sale.

Some other interesting things to note is that you can find free stuff by clicking on a filter labeled “Give it Away” or you can create posts yourself for stuff you want by clicking “Ask for It.”

Overall this is a very nice feature of Facebook, and definitely worth looking at, especially if you’re in the used market or want to see what your friends might have for sale.  And of course, all this comes to you free of charge.
